“The enemy that I have discovered after great search is His Excellency the Mind, and may God bring it on the right path.”Spiritual Garden, Swami Hemraj Chidakashi
Every thing in this world is created for its unique purpose with its distinctive quality, like fire generates heat, water has the function of cooling and is meant to quench thirst, air has revitalizing oxygen and earth sustains life. Nature has millions of creatures and components each serving a purpose. Similarly, mind has been bestowed upon humans to carry out the worldly and physical affairs.
“There are two dispositions fixed in the mind,” says Swami Hemraj Chidakashi in his book, Spiritual Garden, “one good and the other evil.” The nature of your actions determines which way your mind is inclined.
Benevolent Dispositions or To Say The Upward Spiral
- The power of understanding
- Supreme knowledge
- Renunciation or simply detachment
- Salvation or in other words preservation of what’s important
- To align Freewill with God’s will
- Good Deeds
- Conquest of low desires
- Unconditional Love
Malevolent Dispositions or The Downward Spiral
- Unhealthy Competition
- Taking Sides
- Excessive obsession with the body
- Bitter speaking and maligning
We humans make use of both the sides as and when required however, mind becomes one with that to which it is inclined more. If you’re in a bad company, you will fall in the downward spiral even before you know, and your mind will turn against you.
When we are in “satsang” which means company of the mindful and good, our mind becomes free from arrogance and hypocrisy and becomes angelic and refulgent. It ascends the upward spiral to meet the divinity within each one.
Make your mind your best friend by once looking around and seeing what you surround yourself with, the words you hear or speak, the acts you partake in. Look around, the environment is a reflection of the self.
Is there mess or management? Is there clutter or calm? Is your world more concrete or verdant? Is there noise or soothing notes? Are there giggles more or sobs? Do you catch yourself smiling often in the mirror or the frown has left a permanent wrinkle on your face?
The good news is that it is up to you to change it the moment you decide. Using the power of right understanding and intent we all can be there. Resistance will make the lower emotion persist, however friendly conversation in a disassociated way with why it emerged in the first place and what is it trying to teach you will let the light of knowledge shine in and it will disappear. This is the subtle art of transcendence. Not fighting the mind rather understanding it is the key.
It will love to be with you.
Won’t you make mind you friend?
